Careers Programme

At The Bridge School we ensure that our careers education curriculum not only meets the statutory requirements outlined in the Gatsby Benchmarks but provides children with a rich, creative careers education which equips them for the future.

It is our intention to provide children with a wide range of encounters with different employers. This may involve trips to different workplaces or meeting visiting speakers. Older children may also participate in work experience sessions, both at school and with external employers. We are always keen to build new links, and we are always happy to hear from local employers who would be willing to work along side us.

We recognise that the world of work is not simply about paid jobs, and our careers education includes learning about voluntary work, supported employment, further education and the different kinds of post 16 provisions in the local area.

Our Beehive Café provides an environment for children to learn skills such as customer service, catering and facilities management. Children serve a range of hot and cold drinks and snacks. We are open by arrangement for community groups and other interested guests. Please contact Emma Byford via the school office if you would like to arrange a visit.

In Key Stage 4, children have the opportunity to visit local colleges. This allows children to develop their understanding of the next stage of their education, and in some cases get to know their new teachers. Post 16 Opportunities Provider Access Policy.

Please read about our careers provision here.

Please see this PowerPoint presentation about Post 16 planning that was made recently to a professionals meeting.

Some of the key encounter partners we work with:

  • Suffolk One
  • New Suffolk College
  • WS Training
  • Pets at Home
  • Sizewell Power Station

As part of our careers programme, some children have visited Sizewell Nuclear Power Station to learn about electricity. They learned about how we use electricity and explored some of the different job roles in the power station. Children had the chance to interact with exhibits, create their own circuits and try on some PPE.
