The Bridge School at Bramford Lane

Specialist Unit: R, KS1 and 2 Specialist Unit

Our Specialist SEND Unit caters for children in R, KS1 and 2 with cognition and learning needs. The provision is carefully planned to ensure a successful journey from the start of early years to the end of KS2, as well as supporting further assessments to help inform future placements. Our CUSP Access curriculum model creates a multi-sensory learning environment that incorporates learning through a balance of adult directed and child-initiated play. Learning opportunities extend to the unit’s own outdoor area. The Unit has personal care facilities and three clear learning spaces which can be used for individual, small or whole group support. The Unit is overseen by The Bridge School, including the EYFS Lead, Curriculum Leads and one of the Assistant Headteachers. Two experienced teachers and 6 Teaching Assistants support the daily learning.

Overview

The Cognition and Learning Unit at Bramford Lane is a self-contained specialist unit close to central Ipswich. The Unit accommodation is a purpose-converted stand-alone small building with three bright and airy classrooms, outdoor learning areas, toilets, disabled toilets, break out spaces, a meeting room and parking.

To ensure smooth and supportive transitions, our specialist teachers liaise with families, before their start date, and the children’s needs are carefully assessed during the initial transition period as they begin to settle into their new environment. A personalised curriculum is written and developed overtime to ensure individual needs are met according to EHCPs.

Although the children are expected to wear school uniform to promote a sense of belonging, adaptions can be made to support self-care and individual needs. Families have access to the Earwig portal which will give you access to day-to-day communication and updated progress towards EHCP Outcomes.

Communication is the key development strand at all our sites, and broadly refers to the teaching and learning within the strands of ‘reading’, ‘communication’ and ‘writing’. We adopt a holistic and creative approach in delivering these strands, with an underlying emphasis on fostering the development of children’s communication skills. Subjects provide the interesting and enriching vehicles through which to deliver knowledge and skills learning, thus the key learning points are threaded through all subjects as is communication.
